Research and Development Engineer

Location: Charleston, SC
Position Type: Part-Time (50%)
Duration: 1-2 Years
Compensation: Commensurate with experience


About Us: At OncoBLAZE, we are at the forefront of developing novel cancer therapies through a unique drug-device treatment approach. Our mission is to enhance cancer care by delivering therapies precisely to cancer cells that persist after surgery. We aim to improve patient outcomes and reduce the burden of cancer recurrence by leveraging innovative technologies, such as our heat-triggered nanoparticles (TNP) system that delivers targeted chemotherapy.
About the Project: We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our team in developing the imaging component of our therapy system. This innovative project has a duration of 1-2 years and requires a part-time commitment of 50%. The candidate must be able to be present in Charleston, SC for a majority of their working hours.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Aid in the design and development of the imaging component of our precision tissue heating system combining monochrome, fluorescence and thermal imaging.

  • Develop image processing algorithms to analyze system performance and provide feedback for further optimization. Image processing includes image registration, correction of undesired ambient light influences, and visualization.

  • Conduct experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of the tissue heating system, utilizing various imaging techniques (monochrome, fluorescence, thermal).

  • Document the development process and results for future reference and reporting.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary university staff who perform animal experiments, providing results for further optimizing the tissue heating system.

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.

  • Write and document software and device requirements.​
     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in image processing, specifically with monochrome, fluorescence and thermal images.

  • Proficiency in Python for image processing.

  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to be present in Charleston, SC for a majority of the working hours.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with image processing.

  • Familiarity with medical device regulations and standards.
